Hi young artist!
We invite you to participate in the international art project “Korovay.” The goal of the project is to create a unique collection of masterpieces that will be displayed both in Ukraine and around the world.
Due to recent tragic events, the world has learned about the existence of a mighty and peaceful European nation that has languished in the shadow of empires for centuries. Ukrainians have endured trials and genocides, and yet they have not only survived as a nation but also preserved and enriched their traditions and cultural heritage. Right now, the whole world is eagerly watching as our courageous people fight for their freedom and independence.
The aspirations, dreams, and ideals of our hardworking and brave people are embodied in the symbolically rich traditional bread artistry known as “Korovay.” Korovay has been present at the most important moments in the lives of Ukrainian people, serving both festive and ritual functions. Its symbolism reflects the unique qualities of the Ukrainian nation – hospitality, generosity, peace-loving nature, kindness, empathy, selflessness, loyalty, family values, and a pursuit of beauty.
Almost everyone today wants to be connected to Ukraine, and the world has become our friend, patron, and sponsor. A vast number of people have immense respect for the courage displayed by Ukrainians. Through our creativity, we now have the opportunity to introduce Ukraine to the world—its history, culture, and traditions. We want to express our gratitude to the world for supporting our nation in challenging times and share the warmth of our souls with others. We aim to bring our Ukrainian perspective to the rich tapestry of world culture.
Returning to the roots of the Ukrainian nation will allow us to regain strength, heal, and help the world become a better place. By rediscovering our unique selves and genetic code, we embrace our cultural identity and pass it on to future generations.
We believe that children are the channelers of creative energy who paint with their hearts. From birth, they are filled with the traditions and heritage of their ancestry and intuitively feel their purpose. They embody both the past and the future. They will become the seeds from which a beautiful Korovay will emerge.
We invite children and youth aged 9 to 18 years old to join the large-scale art project “Korovay” and depict their unique vision of Ukraine, its traditions, cultural values, and the profound qualities of the Ukrainian people.
Only artists can capture with a brush what cannot be seen with the eyes—feelings, emotions, experiences. We encourage participants to recreate the sensations encoded in the Korovay bread without actually painting a Korovay. Paint with your heart and soul, and in doing so, create the new Ukrainian art.
A professional jury will select 108 artworks for participation in the art project. The organizers plan to hold exhibitions and presentations of the collection in Ukraine, Europe, and the USA. The final stage of the exhibition tour will take place in Seattle, WA.
The 108 artworks chosen for the global journey will be featured in the catalog “Korovay. 108 Perfections of the Human.” The printed catalog will be presented to all participants.
